Montagnana was going to be attacked by Verona's armies. Population was scared because the sensible minority of their defence. They made many and many fake soldier in wood and weared them in red as the rest of the real soldiers. They put them on the castle walls to be easily seen by the enemies. This and other strategies discouraged the enemies from attack and Montagnana was safe. Montagnana celebrate this date on new years's eve with a big medievel party in the streets of the village animated by groups with historical clothes. Tourists can buy a red cape to evoke the ancient victory. They are involved in the historical parade and can eat and drink for free in the city streets.
