Teatro San Carlo is the oldest working theatre in Europe. Here the first italian ballet school was founded. The Theatre was built on order of king Carlo di Borbone to replace the old San Bartolomeo. The theatre then took the king's name and the presence of the Bourbons is still visible today on the great seal of the Kingdom of Two Sicilies on the huge proscenium arch.
