Venice nobles wished to build the new Opera house in the districts of Sant'Angelo and Santa Maria Zobenigo. Decision was taken on 1789 and the building process ended with the foundation of one of the most beautiful and elegant theatres in the world. La Fenice was anyway destroyed by fire on 1996. The whole world acted to reconstruct the theatre and it was restored as it was with copies of the original decoration that anciently made its splendour. On november 2004 La Fenice was re-opened with the Verdi's Traviata.
