Ceremonies to celebrate Santa Rosalia began on the 1624 with the discovery of her bones. Her role was fundamental for the city of Palermo. In fact, Santa Rosalia stopped the spreading of plague in the city, saving life to the citizens.
Each year a huge and spectacular parade walk through the city since that year. Religious ceremonies and popular celebrations are incessant for 7 days.

The Festino is the most important event in the city. The main attractive at the time was a huge historical and baroque wagon moved through the historical city. Today the wagon is 9 metres long and 6 metres high and moves from the Palazzo Reale to the sea. At the end of the celebrations the most beautiful fireworks are lighted on the sea. To realize how big and important this event is it is usefule to say that usually more than one undred people take part to the parade.
