Saint Peter

It is the most important site for Christians of all over the world. Is is located in the Vatican city the smallest indipendent State in the world. Saint Peter Church is te biggest church in the world. The most known artist of Italy worked on in the Renaissance and Baroque ages. The beautiful dome on the top was made by Michelangelo. Bernini made some of the interiors and the famous marble coloumn (284!) series outside the church to symbol two arms ready to accueil and hug the whole world. To understand how big is the Basilica few datas can help. The facade is 47 metres high and 115 metres long. The interior is 186 metres long and 46 metres high. On the ceiling and on the walls are thousands square metres of mosaics. Underneat the dome is located the huge bronxe canopy made by Bernini. Underneath the canopy is the Pope altar (in the Basilica are more than 40 more altars!). In this church, Popes are buried from Saint Peters' death on. Works of art and nasterpieces are so frequent in every side of the building. The most important is anyway the Pietà of Michelangelo. Mary is riproduced while hugh the Jesus' body after his death.
