[IT] Campidoglio [/IT][EN] Campidoglio [/EN]

It is the ancient Capitolium, the most important of the seven hills where Rome is lied. It has always been the fundamental hill for the government of the city. The Campidoglio is today a fascinating area where each buildings and statues are part of a general architectural plan. Michelangelo planned to build this area as we can see it today. A long marble staircase is the access from Piazza Venezia to the Campidoglio. The square on the top has three beautiful palaces each on one side of the square (Senatorio, dei Conservatori and Nuovo) In the middle of the square is the equestrian statue of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius. On a corner of the square is the statue of the she-woolf that lacteted Romolo, founder of Rome, and his broter Remo. It is the symbol of the city.
Palazzo dei Conservatori and Palazzo Nuovo are the location of an art-gallery and of the Musei Capitolini full of Roman antiquities. Palazzo Senatorio, the most beautiful and imposing one, is the City Hall of Rome. Behind this palace is one of the most suggestive view of the Foro Romano.
