At the death of the emperor Onorio, the whole Empire was leaded by Galla Placidia on the behalf of Valentiniano III. Galla Placidia ordered many buildings to be erected and, among these, the mausoleum was supposed to host the Galla Placidia's rests. As many other ancient buildings in Ravenna, the mausoleum has no decoration on the outside and it is incredibly rich inside. Inside are infact many beautiful mosaics. Among the most interesting works of art there is a deligthful sky with 570 stars represented on the ceiling.
