Filippo Basile create on 1863 a beautiful garden in the middle of it. The attractive layout of impressive Garibaldi gardens make thi side one of the most attractive of Palermo. This little park is today something extraordinary because of huge tropical trees. The biggest ones in europe in their kind. On the square are the Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli, the Palazzo Notarbartolo Greco, the Palazzo Denti Fatta and Palazzo Galletti. On a corner of the square is also Palazzo Steri. The “Steri” is a middle age imposing building, headquarter of the Church Tribunal (“Tribunale della Santa Inquisizione”) where people were sent to die in fire because of their heresy. It' s amazing how people gave signs of their fears leaving on the walls struggling writtens still visible. In the Steri are also many proof of the artistic life of that period. The ceiling of Sala Magna is known as one of the most important masterpiece of Sicilian painting of the XIII century. Barons' Hall is as well known for its middle age painting themes made on 1380 on the wooden ceiling.
