Castel Sant'Elmo is on the highest site of the city, on the Sant'Erasmo hill today known as the Vomero hill. It was built on the order of king Charles I d'Angiò on 1329 and took the name of Belforte. On the Normans age here was just a tower instead. On 1547 the castle was totally restored and became bigger with its typical star-shape, today the castle covers all the top of the hill. Here is one of the most beautiful view of Napoli bay.
