The most beautiful city in the world. Rome was capital of the Roman Empire and undiscussed center of the known world of that time. Founded about on 700 b. C., Rome conquered half Europe just few centuries after. The best period of Rome was the Empire one with no doubt. This great age started on 27 b.C. by Augusto the Emperor after the murdering of Iulius Caesar. The Empire then reached its maximum extension covering almost the entire Europe, North Africa, the Middle East as far as the border of India. The power of Rome is still visible in many side of the world. Many of the biggest cities of the contemporary age were founded by Romans or still have some important monuments belonging to that culture.
Rome had its own decadence five centuries a. C. because of the barbarian invasions. The Roman Empire ended few years later. Rome anyway became a great city again because of the Christianity expansion through the world. Rome was then elected capital again and the Pope became the vicar of God on the earth. On the XVI century new noble palaces raised on the ashes of the ancient city. On the XVII century the baroque period made Rome even more beautiful than it was already and so on through the XVIII century with the neoclassical age. On the 1870 Rome was annexed to Italy and then became capital again confirming its famous name of “Eternal City”.
