Luxury Hotels in Mazara del Vallo
As well as the near Marsala, even Mazara was founded by Phoenicians. Part of the Chartaginese kingdom, it became then Roman. Mazara was then elected capital of the Wal region (Vallo) that gave to the city the name still used today.
Among the several monuments te most important to visit are the baroque Cathedral, San Michele's church, San Niccolo regale in Northman-arab style and the Giummare's little temple not so far from the downtown.
Mazara is today famous because of its fishing activities. Here is the highest amount of fishing boats of the entire mediterranean.
In a recent period Mazara became famous also beacuse of the discovery of the Satiro danzante (the danzing satyr). A more than s metres high bronze statue from IV – III century b. C. completely restored and today exhibited in the Satyr museum in the downtown.
